Pumpkin, Pumpkin and more Pumpkin

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Though today, the blustery storm is a bit much. The wind makes it seem so cold.

I love the smell of fall, the brightly colored leaves, and the crisp air. Pumpkin seemed like the proper homage to the season.

On warmer day, I tried my hand at making pumpkin ice cream. I used the recipe from A Vegan Ice Cream Paradise.

Last week I made sourdough pumpkin pancakes. All I did was add pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon to the regular sourdough recipe I've linked to in the past.

Could I have been more happy to finally receive Veganomicon in the mail? The second recipe I tried was the Pumpkin Saag. Saag translates to greens. This is an Indian dish with roasted pumpkin, spinach, and loads of spices. It turned out fabulously, despite my concerns. (I'd been unsuccessful cooking with fresh pumpkin in the past.)
Unfortunately, this year I did not carve a pumpkin. It was a rough week for me and my normal Halloween spirit was no where to be found. Halloween night, I actually met a friend for dinner and a movie. (We saw Darjeeling Limited, if you were wondering.) Anyway, here's a photo of one I carved a few years back.

I think I'd really like both the ice cream and the pancakes. I've become a big pumpkin fan. Gooo pumpkin!

Wow Jody, you are a talented pumpkin carver! My skills never matured past the 5th grade stage...
All your pumpkin-y food looks so excellent! (Did you notice the new Melody tester recipe...) You just know I'm going to be copying your pumpkin pancake idea...!

Pumpkin is probably my favorite thing about autumn. I am drooling over those sourdough pumpkin pancakes.

And you are a master carver. I'm impressed as hell.

the Pumpkin Ice Cream, Pumpkin Pancakes, and Pumpkin Sag look incredibly scrumptious!! Perfect foods to make, incorporating one of my favorite autumn ingredients :0)

thank you for your comment on my blog - I'm going to try a different loaf recipe this week, which I'm hoping will have PERFECT results!

Yay for pumpkin! And wow, your carving skills are amazing!

I have eaten in Grasshopper four times, and I LOVE it :o). There was another veg restaurant I loved called "Buddha" something, but it went out of business :o(.

Too bad we didn't meet up at the Vegfest!

Ooooh, thanks for letting me know! I was really sad to see, last time I was in Boston, that Buddha's Delight had gone away. Nice to know I can still get my fix of their food on my next trip to Beantown :o).

That's a great carving! I didn't get to do any carving this year either, unfortunately. There is always next year! For now, pumpkin dishes sound marvelous. :)

You carved that pumpkin? Wow!!! I think that qualifies as "sculpture" not regular pumpkin carving! The new blog layout looks great, by the way!

Sorry you had a tough week Jody! Hopefully things are looking up....

I love that you added pumpkin to your sourdough pancakes! It is definitely still warm enough here to be making ice cream....

we kinda skipped halloween this year too...we bought a pumpkin to carve but its actually still sitting in the window of the new house uncarved, awaiting a fate of being chopped, roasted and possibly mashed. that picture of the one you carved last year is beautiful though! I wish I had those skills but mine always end up looking goofy.
